The IC697RCM711 module is a communications module in the Series 90-70 product line by GE Fanuc Automation. This specific module has a redundancy communications module. This module is made to connect 2 different pieces of equipment that both fulfill the main function such as the main CPU and the backup CPU. Both of these devices act in different instances but when they do, they have the same function. If the main CPU is in an active state without experiencing any kind of faults, the second device will receive all the backup information. The GE Fanuc Automation IC697RCM711 communications module is generally used in applications that include a Hot Standby or an Enhanced Hot Standby CPU Redundancy system. Both of these systems can have a connection length of at least 7.5 meters which enables them to be located in different areas if needed. The CPUs that support this kind of operation are the IC697CPU780, IC697CGR935, and the IC697CGR772 CPU.


The GE Fanuc Automation Series 90-70 IC697RCM711 communications module requires a current of 1.2 Amps and a Bus voltage of 5 Volts and it also comes with an expansion interface that uses a 15-meter connection cable. This module can communicate at a data rate of 500 KB per second and it does not require specific electrical isolation in order to operate. This module has been designed to operate with the VME integrated devices. The GE Fanuc Automation IC697RCM711 communications module comes with status indicators and a physical pushbutton. Through these buttons, the current state of the system can be changed from the main unit to the backup unit and vice versa.
